Rockford Sporting Clays--- PULL!!!

Sporting Clays for Scouting is an exciting opportunity for sportsmen to support local Scouting programs. Every year Scouting introduces more young people to shooting sports than any other organization. By participating in our Sporting Clays for Scouting program sportsmen are ensuring that a new generation of shooting sports enthusiasts are being given the opportunity to enjoy the sport.

Sporting Clays Facts:
The program started in the Blackhawk Area Council, BSA in the fall of 2000, as a means to raise money for local Scouting programs.

Money raised supports the ScoutReach program. ScoutReach is the Blackhawk Area Council's outreach program. Operating in over 50 sites per year, ScoutReach brings the Scouting experience to over 3500 at risk boys.

The event has evolved from a Trap/Sporting Clays event to a pure Sporting Clays activity that will feature twenty challenging stations. What separates our event from others is that, while challenging, all shooters will be able to hit birds and have a good time. Some stations are tougher than others, and there is a wide variety of creatively planned shots.

Shooters at the event come from all walks of life, including local business owners, professionals from various fields, and registered to casual shooters. Everybody is welcome as long as they are safe.

This event has become the largest Sporting Clays shoot in the state of Illinois! This year we expect over 240 shooters.

Sponsorships for the event range from $700 for a team to $5,000 to sponsor the event (three teams w/ carts, premier signage and more!). Those not wanting to field a team may also sponsor portions of the event, including lunch, stations, porta-jons etc. We will have at least seventy sponsors this year! Larger sponsorships ($250 or more) are recognized with signage at the event and mention in the program.

The event this year will have two shifts, the first beginning in the morning and the second in the afternoon. At this time there are spots open in both shifts. There is also a nice lunch provided by the Pork Producers either before or after you shoot. Each shift takes approximately four hours to complete.

There will be plenty of other fun too! Drawings, silent auctions, shooting games and other fun await you. DON'T MISS IT! ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

Call for Volunteers!

We are making plans for this year’s Sporting Clays Event. This important fundraiser for Scouting will take place Saturday, September 12, 2015. This has become one of our most successful events in terms of fun and fundraising. We believe it is now the largest shooting event in the state of Illinois!

I am asking for two levels of support from your Troop or Crew:

  1. First, that some of the older scouts in your Troop or Crew serve as Trappers, hospitality helpers and parking guides during this event.
  2. We need Older Scouts and adults for Trappers at each of the 15 stations.

A Trapper is the person that operates the machine that flings the clay pigeons into the air when the Shooter shouts “PULL!”

This year all the traps will be electronic and automatic devices, and so will be much easier to operate.

On the day of the event, Sept. 12, they would have to be at the Upland Gun Club by 6:30 am until about 4:30 pm. Volunteers will be treated to a light breakfast and a huge pork chop lunch.

With input from last years Youth and Adult volunteers, we are making a number of improvements for the comfort and convenience of the trappers and guests.  If you have a suggestion that will improve the event, please feel free to call, write or E-mail your ideas to me at the address below.
