Jamborees

There are two basic types of jamborees:

National Scout Jamboree

The National Jamboree is Scouting's grandest tradition...a gathering of Scouts and leaders from across the nation (as well as a contingent of Scouters from overseas). Jamboree is the quintessence of the Scouting movement. Program features will reflect the skills of Scouting, the nation's heritage, physical fitness, conservation, and the spirit of brotherhood. During this brief period when the Scouts gather, you can see everything that Scouts do - and everything that Scouting is — all in one place.

Program features reflect the skills of Scouting, our national heritage, physical fitness, environmental conservation, and the true spirit of Scouting. Daily activities include archery, bikathlon, buckskin games, confidence course, conservation programs, scuba, kayak fun, racing shell run, and raft encounters.

Regional action centers with rappelling towers are truly popular, as are trap shooting, an American Indian village, and the opening and closing arena shows, not to mention daily stage shows and many other activities. It's Scouting and American history at their very best!

World Jamboree

A world jamboree is an international encampment of Scouts, teenagers, and unit leaders with the purpose of providing a dramatic demonstration of Scouting’s ability to develop world brotherhood, a spirit of friendship, and a source of understanding among young people through fellowship, activities, and adventure. Most of the countries with Scout associations will be represented.

The 21st World Scout Jamboree was hosted in the United Kingdom from July 27 until August 8, 2007. It brought together 40,000 Scouts, Venturers, leaders, and staff for 12 days. They shared adventure, international friendship, personal growth, and development.
