Wood Badge - Advanced Leadership Training

Online Registration Now AvailableExternal Link

Wood Badge is the most advanced leadership training available for Scout leaders. The course is inspired by Baden-Powell, the founder of the World Scout Movement. B-P held the first Wood Badge course in 1919.

The current course takes contemporary leadership and team-development skills that are used in American business and combines them with over 100 years of Scouting experience.

The purpose of Wood Badge is help you lead a high-quality program that ultimately enables Scouts to grow to their greatest potential.

What Should I Expect?

During the two weekend sessions, you will enjoy games, hands‐on projects, and inspirational moments. You’ll build a strong network within the Scouting program, and gather resources on a wide range of leadership topics, including:

  • Situational Leadership
  • Leveraging Diversity
  • Communication
  • Project Planning
  • Leading Change
  • Problem Solving
  • Managing Conflict
  • Coaching & Mentoring

At Wood Badge, you’ll deepen your appreciation of Scouting’s heritage, and develop a vision of the role you play in its future. On the first weekend, each attendee writes a set of Scouting‐related goals. These goals (your “ticket”) define your vision and outline a plan of action for the next 18 months. As you work on these goals, you’ll get an immediate return on your investment.

When you complete your ticket, you’ll receive your training award: a Wood Badge neckerchief and leather woggle (neckerchief slide) and a set of Wood Badge beads. These items identify you as someone who has completed advanced training. They will also serve to remind you of your ongoing commitment to service and Scouting.
