Sycamore Commissioner Staff

We are a team of liaisons between the local Scout units and the District. While the official BSA title is “Commissioner”, we really think of ourselves as “Mentors”. With so many opportunities in Scouting, there is always new information available and new or better ways to navigate the great Scouting journey. We are here to be a resource, to share new information, to listen to your questions and to provide clarification where needed. When plans don’t go as desired, we’re here to be a helping hand, to help you get back on track. We serve as a sounding board for issues and provide actionable advice.

Who is the Commissioner / Mentoring Team?

The team consists of volunteers who are or have previously been involved in the Scouting program at their local Pack, Troop, or Crew. They all started as new parents or new leaders in positions including but not limited to Den Leaders, Committee Members, Scoutmasters, or more. They have been through much of what you are experiencing now, and can be your direct line for help. That help can include connecting units with District volunteers who specialize in advancements, membership, and much more!

What Roles do they Play?

  • Unit Commissioners: Serve as mentors to units
  • Roundtable Commissioners: Coordinate and facilitate Roundtable activities, including breakout sessions focused on Cub Scouts, Scout Troops, and Crews
  • Assistant District Commissioners: Support the Commissioner team in specialized areas including administration, training, leader development, and mentoring the unit commissioners.

How can I learn more?

If you would like to learn more about any of the above or are interested in helping in a Unit Mentor capacity, please send me an email: Click to send email.

Yours in Scouting,

Doug Tucker, Sycamore District Commissioner
