Help Our Scouts in Flooded Louisiana!

Last week, unprecedented rainfall hit parts of Louisiana, causing catastrophic flooding in many communities. If you’ve been following the news coverage, you’ve seen that some areas received nearly three feet of rain in less than a day’s time, creating the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Hurricane Sandyin 2012. As a result, thousands of people — including many Scouting families — have been affected and displaced by flooding. Both the Evangeline Area Council (in Lafayette) and the Istrouma Area Council (in Baton Rouge) are operating with limited communication and staff.

While Scouts in the area have beenvolunteering their time, many who aren’t near Louisiana have asked what they can do to help. Fortunately, providing aid to our Louisiana Scouting family is as easy as sending a text.

To help both councils become fully operational once again, and to help provide newuniforms and handbooks to Scouts and leaders who have been affected by the floods, a fund has been set up called #Scouts4Scouts. Simply text the message“Scouts4Scouts”to the number41444 and follow the instructions in the reply to make your tax-deductible gift.

The National Council will match funds raised during the Top Hands conference, and we will also make a contribution from the emergency discretionary fund to each of the affected councils.

On the council level, you can also help spread the word by posting the following text (and the attached image) to your Facebook page:

Many Louisiana Scout families have been affected and displaced by flooding. Both the Evangeline Area (Lafayette) and Istrouma Area councils (Baton Rouge) are operating with limited communication and staff. This fund has been set up to make it easy for those wanting to help. Your support will provide newuniforms and handbooks to Scouts and leaders who have been affected, and help both councils become fully operational once again. Thank you in advance for your continued prayers and support.

Yours in Scouting,

Mike
